Perched and Pretty
This beautiful orange breasted sunbird I photographed in Kirstenbosch Gardens, Cape Town, South Africa. These birds are small and very quick to take flight, so this capture was within seconds of "takeoff". The Orange-breasted Sunbird is commonly found in the fynbos biome, a unique and diverse vegetation type in South Africa characterized by shrubland, heathland, and grassland. They are adapted to the specific plant species found in this habitat.
Sunbirds are known for their nectar-feeding habits, and the Orange-breasted Sunbird is no exception. Their long, slender bills are adapted for probing flowers to extract nectar.
They are highly active and agile birds, often seen hovering around flowers while feeding.
